ESC18 email and iOS devices (iPhones and iPads)
Due to a recent security issue discovered with attackers exploiting IMAP(1) to bypass Multi-factor authentication(2) in G Suite and Office 365, IMAP has been disabled for our ESC18 accounts.
What does this mean for users of iPhones and iPads now having trouble accessing their ESC18 email? They will need to use the Gmail - Email by Google app available from the App Store instead of the stock email app on the device.
Using the Gmail app to access your ESC18 email requires adding your account to the device. Adding your account to the device requires the installation of the Google Apps Device Policy. (Download and installation instructions can be found here.) This allows us to manage the ESC18 account on the device and remotely remove the account if necessary, e.g. sudden employee departure from employment, device is stolen, etc.
The way settings are configured on our G Suite accounts should still allow your ESC18 calendar and contacts to sync with the corresponding stock iOS apps after adding your ESC18 account to the device.
Your personal account stays private
If you access multiple Google Accounts on the device, then no data in any account outside of the managed account is shared with your organization without your consent. For example, if you have a personal Gmail account, a managed work account, and an unmanaged account for a volunteer group you work with, no information from the personal or volunteer group account is shared with your employer. Browser activity while in private or Incognito mode of Apple Safari® or Chrome is also not shared. (3)
If you have reservations about installing the Google Apps Device Policy on your device(s), you can access your ESC18 email and calendar through Safari by going to mail.esc18.net. Accessing it this way does not support push notifications like the app does, meaning that you will need to manually check for new mail and will not receive notifications from events on your calendar.
Hopefully, the above provides enough information to address the email issue you may be experiencing. As always, questions will be answered and concerns will be addressed to the best of our ability.
