Disable Classic Hangouts in Gmail

The Hangouts built into the Gmail interface is the old classic Hangouts and not the new Google Chat. To help with making this less confusing and to make sure you are using the correct product you should disable the classic Hangouts in the Gmail interface.

Click on gear icon in the top right corner of your Gmail interface.

Then click settings.

Click Chat, Turn Chat off, and click save.
